Green Cleaning a Coffee Maker
Cleaning a coffee maker; A clean kitchen is something we all take pride in. There is nothing like everything put away in its proper place and a sparkle we’d be proud to show the queen.
Today green cleaners are becoming more prevalent in our kitchen cleaning tasks. More people are trusting eco friendly cleaners with the jobs that have been done by chemical based cleaners since the 1940’s. This is for good reason. Standard commercial cleaners we find at the supermarket can be full of toxins that have been directly linked to cancer, asthma, organ tissue damage and skin irritations.
That is nasty stuff!
When you want a clean kitchen, you can use green cleaners on everything from your oven to sink to tile backsplash. But did you know that tackling your coffee maker with a natural cleaning product can be done as well? Not only will you get your coffee maker clean, but you will keep your cup of java tasting great (while reducing your exposure to those nasty chemicals we just mentioned).
Green cleaning a coffee maker is easy. It will also help keep your coffee tasting just the way you like it. I am a coffee snob. I love my big mug of strong bitter-free Jo first thing in the morning. To ensure the best coffee experience at home I buy good (organic fair trade) coffee beans and use good clean water right out of my tap. As part of my kitchen cleaning routine I also use a green cleaning method to clean my coffee maker.
To keep your coffee at its best, give your coffee maker a quick and easy green cleaning once per month. The oil from coffee beans can collect in the brewer reducing its effectiveness in providing you the best cup of Jo possible. But the last thing you want to do is clean your pot with chemicals.
This is one spot where you really want to use a green cleaning method. There are traditional chemical products that claim to effectively remove calcium. But what are they made of and are they safe? Personally, when it comes to my coffee, I’d rather have it as natural tasting as possible. I’m not rolling the dice on my coffee flavor (and my health for that matter).
Here’s a kitchen cleaning tip for green cleaning a coffee maker that is easy and inexpensive. Simply fill your coffee maker with 1 to 2 cups of white vinegar and top up to full with tap water. Start your pot and let it run through. Let the pot sit full for 15 to 20 minutes.
Keep a 1/4 pot full of the hot vinegar and water mix and scrub with a brush to remove any spots. Remove and rinse the basket and pot with warm water. Refill the coffee maker and run one pot of clean water through.
You can now safely enjoy your favorite cup of coffee without the risk of harmful chemicals. Your pot will also run better and last longer (saving you money in the long run). Oh, and by the way, your coffee will taste great.
Remember when you want a clean kitchen you don’t need chemical based cleaners. Green cleaning solutions are simple, effective and safe. And most times they will save you money.
Cleaning green is the new wave and it’s here to stay.
