Get a Clean Shower without Chemicals

There’s nothing like a clean shower. But where hard water stains, soap scum and even rust are common, how do you keep it clean? Many store-bought cleaners are full of chemicals that are not only harmful to use, but leave chemical residue in the shower.

To us, that's not clean.

A clean shower doesn’t require the use of heavy duty chemicals that can pose health risks. Many everyday bathroom cleaners contain alkylphenol ethoxylates (we dare you to say that 3 times fast). These are suspected hormone disruptors. And almost all bathroom cleaning products contain fragrances that can cause allergic reactions and respiratory issues.

Check the back of your current bathroom cleaning products. Do they recommend using in a well ventilated area? Do they tell you to keep them away from children? Do they direct you to rinse after use? Do they tell you to wash your hands?

Ask yourself, how can this be clean? If you are using a product that replaces soap scum with a residue of toxic cleaners, how are you better off?

If we had to choose between chemicals and soap scum, we'll take the scum. Thankfully you don't have to choose. You can get your bathroom and shower as clean as ever without the use of chemical based cleaners.

At Cleaning Naked, we want to help you understand that chemical clean isn’t clean. Your body is made to fight germs and bacteria, not process chemical residue. And cleaning without chemicals can be so easy!

Here’s some bathroom cleaning tips that will give you a quick clean and a green clean shower;

  • Keep a microfiber cloth handy. After your shower, give the shower walls, taps and door a quick wipe. This will keep your shower clean and shiny and prevent build up of scum and hard water.
  • Every now and then use a tissue or cleaning wipe (biodegradable) to give a quick wipe around the drain to pick up excess hair, and avoid clogged drains.
  • Pay attention to the amount of shampoo and shower soap you’re using. Chances are you are using more than you need. More of it may be on the shower door and walls than on your body!
  • Consider using natural, non-chemical, personal care products (shampoo, shower soap). These green clean products are much better for you and will also dramatically reduce the soap scum left behind.
  • For your weekly or bi-weekly big clean, you can give your whole bathroom a once over with microfiber products. They are so easy to use and you can breathe easy while using them.
  • There are natural bathroom cleaning products on the market. But be careful what you buy. Make sure they have gone through a certification process. Learn more about buying smart at our Greenwashing page.

Remember, a green clean shower is much better for you than a chemically cleaned one. Clean naked, shower naked and don't worry what’s in the shower with you.
