Clean Tile Grout without Chemicals

Enough with the chemicals already. You don’t need a cocktail of store-bought bathroom cleaners to clean tile grout. We made the switch away from chemicals a few years ago and we couldn’t be happier.

Over the last number of decades, chemical cleaning companies have convinced us that the only way to a clean bathroom is by slathering it with a host of chemical based cleaners.

This could not be further from the truth.

By eliminating chemical based cleaners from your home, you will reduce your family’s contact to potentially poisonous ingredients. Some of these toxins have been linked to asthma, cancer, skin irritations and even depression.

A while back we wrote another article about cleaning tile grout. In that article we described how to use baking soda to clean tile grout. It is the baking soda method we use in our home, but we had another eco friendly way to clean grout brought to our attention from a reader of this website.

Vinegar!

Use white vinegar at full strength on your tile grout. Wipe it with a cloth (or scrub with a toothbrush if need be). Make sure you rinse it immediately after you remove the mold and mildew. Long-term, the vinegar can sometimes harm the grout if left on without rinsing (or wiping it away with water).

It is a simple clean and an easy clean. There is no danger of toxic chemical exposure, and you likely have a bottle of white vinegar in your home right now.

We don’t need chemical cleaners to get our homes shining. More families, schools and businesses are adopting a green cleaning strategy. They are finding that it works, it reduces health risks and it is saving them money.

What are you doing?
