Green Floor Cleaning Tip

Be cautious of a floor cleaning tip you get from “those” chemical based cleaning companies. You know the ones we mean. Their products fill the cleaning aisle at your supermarket.

It is time for you to consider going green when it comes to your floors.

The chemicals in many floor cleaners have been linked to a variety of health issues in people. Cancer, asthma, tissue damage and skin irritations are just a few of the side effects that can be caused by chemical based cleaners.

If you have a family or pet, the floor cleaner you use requires extra consideration. Think about how much time kids (especially babies) spend on the floor. If you have a dog or a cat, they spend their entire lives with their nose close to the floor.

Chemical based cleaners often leave a thin residue on the surface you clean (this is especially true of your wood floors and linoleum). These floors have a number of small pores and imperfections that can trap and hold chemicals for long periods after cleaning.

This is not good. Think about how many times your kids touch the floor and put their fingers to their mouth. As parents, this makes us cringe.

We have been conditioned to think we need chemicals to kill all the bacteria in our house. We are hammered with commercials from chemical based cleaners every day that tell us our house isn’t clean unless we wipe out 99% of all bacteria.

This simply is not true.

There are cleaning methods that can eliminate the bacteria on your floors without the use of harsh chemicals (Did you know not all bacteria are harmful? In fact, some bacteria are quite helpful to humans.).

There are many eco friendly ways to get clean wood floors that are easy on your health and less harmful to the environment. It is silly everyone doesn’t use them. Additionally, you will probably save money by switching to a green cleaning strategy.

No kidding.

Thankfully there is a movement toward green when it comes to cleaning laminate and hardwood flooring. And it is easy to make the switch. There are three main options for you to apply a more eco friendly cleaning strategy;

  • Find a natural cleaning product on the market. There are many of them out there. They just don’t have the “marketing power” of the major chemical companies
  • Microfiber products (such as Enjo or Norwex) only require the use of water to get your floor as clean as anything you will ever try
  • Homemade cleaning recipes. There are homemade concoctions that do a terrific job getting your floor clean (and other areas of your house by the way). This strategy can really save you money

The bottom line is this. You need to get chemical based cleaners out of your home. All the reasons are there for you to do it. Your family, your health, the environment and the savings.

Remember, Cleaning Naked means cleaning without chemicals. Join the movement and get your home looking as good as it ever has.
