How to Clean Bathrooms
How to clean bathrooms without the use of toxic chemicals…
With supermarket aisles full of hundreds of different cleaning products you’d be forgiven for thinking that cleaning the bathroom is a complex task. Many people think it requires at least five different chemical concoctions, tough rubber gloves and a battery of specialist gear.
It doesn’t have to be like that, once you learn how to clean bathrooms in a more natural way. All you need is just two cheap and eco friendly ingredients that you already have in your kitchen.
Most of the cleaning that you will need to do regularly in your bathroom can be effectively carried out just with white vinegar and baking soda. It will leave your bathroom just as sparkling and germ free as commercial products - but without a buildup of chemicals that can be hazardous to the health of our children. No need to worry about bleach burns and accidental swallowing of toilet cleaner, no need to worry about breathing in toxic fumes if you mix the wrong products.
Vinegar is a natural mild disinfectant, killing germs, mold and mildew and lifting dirt. Baking soda scours and deodorizes naturally and gently. Used on their own or in combination they can take care of most bathroom cleaning tasks.
Make up a basic surface cleaner to keep on hand for all household cleaning, by combining one cup of white vinegar with one cup of water in a spray bottle.
1.Mirrors
Mist lightly with the vinegar spray and rub dry with a rough cloth or old towel to get rid of toothpaste splashes and smears.
2. Countertops
Spray and wipe down all surfaces with the vinegar spray and a soft cloth. If you have marble, granite or stone surfaces, instead of the vinegar in the spray bottle use a clear alcohol, as vinegar can etch the surface.
3. Sink, bathtub and shower
For a quick clean of light soap residue and toothpaste use the vinegar spray on the sink, tub and shower. Wipe with a soft cloth, no need to rinse. Stubborn rings around the tub need a tougher action though: mix a few tablespoons of baking soda with a few drops of castile soap or dish soap and scrub away the dirt, then rinse.
4. Toilet
Sprinkle a quarter cup of baking soda into the bowl followed by one cup of vinegar. If you have kids, call them in for the next part. The mixture will fizz madly and froth up like a mini volcano. Use a bit of extra baking soda for dramatic effect if you have an audience! Allow it to sit for a few minutes or longer if it is very dirty, then scrub and flush.
Use the vinegar spray to wipe down the toilet seat and outside surfaces.
If your toilet has tough stains that you want to shift, last thing at night pour in 1-2 cups of baking soda. Leave it to sit in the bowl overnight. In the morning flush several times and then scrub with the toilet brush to shift any loose grime.
It works like a charm.
5. Floor
Add half a cup of vinegar to warm water to mop your bathroom floor and keep it hygienic. Use your vinegar spray around the toilet if you prefer, for maximized germ killing hygiene.
Once you know how to clean bathrooms with these simple methods, your home will not only be safer for your family but better for the environment around you. Plus you’ll save a lot of money when you are no longer buying a whole assortment of different chemical products for each separate task.
