Microfiber Cleaning Products
Microfiber cleaning has become a byword of modern cleaning effectiveness. It has been adopted both by those looking for ultra modern cleaning methods and by those who are looking for a green approach to cleaning the home. Many people are cleaning with microfiber for the health of their families and the well-being of the environment.
But what exactly is microfiber and how does it work? Microfiber is a synthetic thread that is processed into extremely fine fibers before being woven into cloth. The construction of the fabric makes it extremely absorbent (ten times more so than cotton), it can hold up to seven times its weight in water.
When applied to cleaning materials the microfiber fabric proves its usefulness. A microfiber cloth will pick up dirt, grease and moisture from a surface leaving no residue. This is because the splits in the fiber grab hold of all loose particles in its path, even microscopic bacteria and viruses.
In comparison, a cotton cloth will simply smear the dirt around the surface absorbing only a proportion of the mess. What this means in practice is that it is a lot less work cleaning with microfiber. One wipe over a surface is enough to clean it, instead of the several wipes and rinses needed with a regular cloth. Mops made of microfiber need significantly less hard work to get the floor clean.
As an example, the advantages of microfiber cleaning have been further enhanced in the case of the Norwex products, by the use of a silver agent embedded in the fibers. The natural antibacterial action of the silver combined with the incredible absorbency of the microfiber means that a home can be cleaned and sanitized effectively without the need for the usual chemical cleaning products. This is a huge plus to the health of our homes. With Norwex, bacteria are lifted from surfaces by the microfiber and killed by the silver in the fiber.
One thing to remember when purchasing a microfiber product is that it is worth investing in a good quality one. The word microfiber can cover a huge range of materials. Some lose their effectiveness after a certain amount of use, while others can be used again and again for many years and still be just as effective.
Microfiber products can be washed in regular laundry cycles and detergent but should never be washed with fabric softeners which clog up the microfibers with their oils reducing their effectiveness.
Microfiber is a synthetic product often derived from petrochemicals so how does that fit in with the whole natural green approach to cleaning? The synthetic, non-bio-degradable nature of microfiber might not make it an obvious eco-choice, however this disadvantage is far outweighed by several factors in its favor.
First of all it can be used and re-used for many years, in the case of good quality microfiber, outlasting and outperforming cotton cloths. Secondly it means that no chemical cleaners are required to get things properly clean, which has a huge positive effect on your home, your family and on the environment. When you use your microfiber cleaning materials responsibly, then they have very little negative impact on the environment and a huge positive one.
